Father God, I come before You right now lifting up my brother Mike. Lord, Your Word says to taste and see that You are good, and that the man who trusts in You is blessed. I anchor this week's prayer there, because Mike told me his heart is conflicted. He is living in Romans 7, doing what he hates and not doing what he wants. And the way out of Romans 7 has always been Romans 8: there is no condemnation for those in Christ, and the Spirit gives life. That is Your goodness, and I am asking You to let him taste it this week.
Lord, give Mike diligence and discipline in his daily rhythms, especially in the morning. He knows that the day is won or lost early. Meet him there. Wake him with a sense that You are near. Give him the will to pick up his cross before he picks up anything else. Let discipline become less a fight and more a response to Your goodness.
Father, guard his eyes. Take his thoughts captive to Christ. Lead him away from temptation and deliver him from every place the enemy has set a trap. Do not let him fight this in his own strength, Lord. Let him fight it in Yours. And when he falls short, meet him with grace fast, before shame gets a word in, so he gets back up instead of staying down.
Lord, I lift up his new business. Bless it. Give it favor, wisdom, the right people, and the right timing. Let it be a place where Your goodness is visible to everyone who touches it. Give Mike the trust to build it without carrying the whole weight of its success on his own back.
Father, strengthen him as a husband and father. Give him patience with his family that does not run out by evening. Guard his joy. The enemy would love to take a man who is fighting on so many fronts and make him joyless at home. Do not allow it. Let his wife and children see a man who is being made new, and let them feel Your goodness through him.
And Father, I rebuke every attack of the enemy on Mike in this season. Satan, you have no authority here. You do not get to use his struggle to convince him that God is done with him. You do not get to whisper that discipline is hopeless because he has failed before. You do not get to steal his joy at home or his hope in his work. We see your schemes, and we shut the door on every one of them in the name of Jesus.
Father, build a wall of protection around Mike's eyes, his mind, his marriage, his children, and his business. Send Your angels ahead of him into every morning and every quiet moment this week. Let him feel Your nearness so clearly that the enemy's voice loses every inch of ground it tried to take.
Refill what is empty, Lord. Give Mike moments of joy this week that come out of nowhere, just to remind him that You see him, You delight in him, and You are fighting for him.
I thank You for Mike. I thank You for a brother honest enough to say his heart is conflicted. That honesty is where You do Your best work.
In Jesus name, Amen.
Brother, you quoted Paul to me, so I am going to quote him back. Romans 7 ends with a man crying out, who will rescue me? And the very next words are the answer: thanks be to God, through Jesus Christ. Then chapter 8 opens with no condemnation. The conflict you described is real, and it is also not where the story ends.
Here is where this week's anchor comes in. Taste and see that the Lord is good. Discipline that comes from fear does not last. Discipline that comes from having tasted something better than the thing you are fighting does. The morning time with God is not a duty you owe Him. It is the meal that makes everything else taste worse by comparison.
So this week, fight for the mornings. Not to prove something. To taste something. Let God be good to you first thing, and watch how it changes what you want the rest of the day.
Your prayer request was sent directly to me. I'm praying with you. You don't have to carry this one alone.
